Is a peaceful end to the raid possible?

We have an idea:

Ukraine is placed under the protective umbrella of global humanitarian aid.

This is how it could work:

Humanitarian aid in Ukraine effectively brings peace to Ukraine and saves lives.

This is how the war could be stopped:

Thousands of helpers from humanitarian organisations and also committed volunteers come to Ukraine to build up relief centres, tent and container cities, hospitals, schools, food supplies and infrastructure on the ground.

Ukraine will be populated by people from as many continents, countries, nations, religions as possible.

THE RESULT WOULD BE:

  • Putin’s attack meets a peaceful “world population” committed to humanitarian goals.

  • But the Ukrainian people are now part of this world population.

  • Putin’s attack becomes an assault on peaceful people of the whole world.

This is difficult to justify. When people from all over the world are threatened, there will be great consternation in Russia, in Europe and internationally. Because Putin is now not confronted with an enemy or fighting between state systems, but with international humanitarian aid workers. Should he drop even one more bomb, the world will turn against him.

The question will then be: who is for human lives and who is against human lives. This will not go unnoticed by the Russian people, because they are suffering there too and many young people are losing their lives in a senseless war. They will be able to see that the attack ultimately harms their people as well and turn away from Putin.

Will this impress Putin?

It already did with the grain shipments. Putin had to fear that bombing the grain cargo ships would trigger worldwide resistance. An expansion of the war into a worldwide famine would probably have turned world public opinion against him so strongly that even his few allies would have broken with him. That is why he preferred not to do it. If he were to bomb humanitarian aid workers from all over the world, he would have to fear the same.

In this way, the war in Ukraine could be ended:

Not the Ukrainians have to leave their country, but the world comes to Ukraine. Ukraine becomes a theatre of humanitarian aid. And no longer a scene of senseless destruction. The defence by a screen of humanitarian aid could be much stronger than the defence by a screen of weapons.

Courageous people from aid organisations all over the world – doctors, medical staff, technicians, logisticians, drivers, mechanics, teachers, therapists, psychologists – are supporting the Ukrainians with their skills, food, material. And contribute to peace with the courage to risk their lives.

The crucial thing is that the protective shield is area-wide – so many that every missile could also hit a non-Ukrainian. Every missile from Russia is aimed at the world. Russia cannot afford that.

Ukraine becomes a world peace theatre.

It would be even stronger if the world religions and churches joined in. If their dignitaries and representatives accompanied the humanitarian aid workers and also spread themselves throughout Ukraine. An additional religious shield.

Supplying weapons, donating, sharing in the suffering is not enough. Making Ukraine a world peace theatre could stop the attack.

What does it take?

Spread the idea to your friends, through social media, pass it on to humanitarian organisations, write letters to the editor, sign the petition. Win as many people as possible for this idea. In parallel, we will contact the European political level and international humanitarian associations to win them over to this idea.
